In the past, waking up was a sacred ritual: pulling the covers, stretching like a cat, and then waking up grateful for being alive. But now? As soon as your eyes are half-lidded, Gen Z's thumbs are already swiping TikTok. Eyes still half-open, phones in hand. Sometimes they don't even realize what day it is, but their FYP (For You Page) is already playing videos of people dancing to Korean dangdut remixes.
This phenomenon isn't unusual. In fact, it's become an unofficial national habit for Generation Z. Let's examine this habit from a comedic perspective, a realistic perspective, and a little bit of sass 😌
1. TikTok: Gen Z's New Alarm Clock
In the past, alarms were just a ringing ringing or beeping beeping. Now? TikTok songs are the most effective alarm clocks. Songs like "DJ Ayang Pulang Dulu" or "Sakit Gigi Lebih Baik Lebih Lebih Lebih Lebih Lebih Lebih Lagi Kamu" have become mandatory soundtracks when waking up.
Some wake up to their mother's voice calling, while others wake up to their FYP shouting:
"Hey, you haven't showered yet!"
They immediately come to their senses.
2. Just One Video, They Say...
Initially, their intention was just "just scroll through one video, then shower."
Five hours later:
• Haven't showered
• Haven't had breakfast
• But now they know how to fry an egg Japanese-style, review soy sauce-flavored ice cream, and watch someone propose to their girlfriend at Indomaret.
FYP is evil. It knows how to keep you on your toes. Swiping a little, and then it's already night. Even chickens are confused, "Why isn't this kid out of bed yet?"
3. Gen Z: Wake Up = Online
In the past, they'd wake up and go straight to the bathroom. Now?
• Open TikTok
• Check notifications
• Like a friend's comment
• Watch 17 reels
• Just thinking about what to do
• 5. Scroll First, Breathe Later
• Some people breathe first, then scroll. But Gen Z sometimes does the opposite: scroll first, then remember to breathe. Their hands keep moving, their eyes focused, their brain numb. It's like a digital trance.
• Oddly, if asked to open a textbook for just 5 minutes:
• "Oh my, I'm dizzy... I'm tired... I can't focus."
But watching TikTok for 3 hours nonstop:
• "So refreshing, like I've just been on a healing trip in Grand Canyon, United States." ðŸ˜
• Gen Z is unique. They're not lazy, they just need a stable Wi-Fi signal. Waking up and opening TikTok isn't a sin, but if they forget to shower for 3 days in pursuit of a viral sound... that deserves a prayer. • So, for those of you who are already watching TikTok in the morning while rubbing your head, remember: life is bigger than FYP, even though… FYP is indeed more interesting than reality.
• Keep up the good work, bestie! Don't forget to live in the real world too, okay? 😆.
